About Us
VNS began operations in November 1985 as a not-for-profit, voluntary corporation. The original sponsor was Ithacare Center, an adult care facility in Ithaca. Since accepting its first patient in 1985, VNS has worked to serve residents of Tompkins County of all ages.
VNS
is a certified home health agency (CHHA) and long term home health care
program (LTHHCP). A sub-program of the LTHHCP is an AIDS Home Care Program
which targets patients with HIV infection. The Agency provides health
services to individuals who are unable to access care in facilities to
which they must travel. The CHHA provides acute care services (usually
short term) which are considered in lieu of hospitalization. Medicare,
Medicaid, and private insurance companies reimburse for this level of
care. The LTHHCP (long term) provides chronic care to those who would
otherwise require institutional care. The chronic care is reimbursed by
Medicaid or the client. An additional service is private duty nursing
for individuals who wish to remain home for intensive nursing care.
VNS sells units of service. The services sold are skilled nursing, physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech/language pathology, nutritional therapy, medical social services, home health aide, personal care aide, homemaker, housekeeper, respiratory therapy, and audiology. All services are provided under a physician's order. VNS complies with federal requirements for privacy of health information. The VNS Privacy statement is available upon request.
VNS became more closely affiliated with, and assumed operational responsibility for, Community Health & Home Care, Inc.(CHHC) in 2001. CHHC is a licensed home care agency that has earned a reputation for helping people in our community to receive friendly, dependable assistance in their own homes. CHHC services complement our VNS services, and help us in providing more seamless care to residents in Tompkins County. VNS is pleased to work with our CHHC partners!
