Employment Opportunities

Visiting Nurse Service employs health care professionals, such as Registered Nurses, Licensed Practical Nurses, Physical Therapists, Occupational Therapists, Speech Language Pathologists, and Medical Social Workers. Community Health and Home Care employs non-professional, certified home care workers, such as home health aides, personal care aides, and companions.

The agency has several different position classifications, which include:

Full Time, salaried positions are for employees who work full time. These are non-overtime eligible positions, and the employees in these positions are expected to work the number of hours needed to complete their job duties. These employees receive full benefits. Registered Nurse Care Managers fall into this classification.

Full Time, hourly positions are for employees who work 35-40 hours per week. These are non-exempt positions, meaning that they are eligible for overtime, only if the agency approves working over 40 hours in the week. These employees are eligible for full benefits. The agency's administrative support positions generally fall into this classification.

Part Time, hourly positions are for employees who work 20 or more hours per week. These employees work a variable number of hours per pay period and are paid according to the number of hours worked. The agency makes no guarantee of hours and/or days of work to part time employees. These employees are eligible for pro-rated benefits. The agency's home health aides fall into this classification.

Per Diem positions are for employees who work on an as needed basis at an established per diem rate. Employees in this category are eligible for pro-rated health insurance, pension plan, and Section 125 benefits provided they are working at least 20 hours per week. Among others, private duty RNs and LPNs, on-call RNs, fee for service RN's and Therapists may fall into this category.

Positions Available

Registered Nurses and Licensed Practical Nurses (Per Diem): Perform professional nursing services as required in the care of physically or mentally compromised patients, under the direction and written orders of a physician. Weekdays, Evenings, Nights, and Weekend hours are usually available.

RN and LPN positions are available for nurses who wish to:

  1. Assist Care Managers with skilled nursing visits during the workweek, or with the agency's on call program on weekends. Performs nursing assessments of patients per the plan of care and notifies the care managing nurse of any problems or changes in patient status. Prepares and applies dressings, prepares and administers medication, and performs diagnostic procedures and nursing treatment as ordered by a physician.
  2. Perform one-on-one Private Duty Nursing with either adult or pediatric patients. Cares for patients and their living quarters, including assuring personal hygiene, preparing and serving meals, assisting with feedings, transferring and positioning, bathing and skin care. Performs other patient care as ordered by the physician and care-managing nurses.

Physical Therapists, Occupational Therapists, and Speech Language Pathologists (Per Diem): Provides physical therapy, occupational therapy, or speech language pathology services to patients of the agency, under the direction and written orders of a physician. Job duties include, but are not limited to: evaluating the degree of function and disability of patients; performing physical, occupational, or speech therapy procedure upon the written order or referral of a licensed physician; developing a treatment plan based on patient evaluation and physician orders designed to maximize independent, functional mobility, to maximize patient independence in activities of daily living, or to restore, improve, or compensate communication efficiency and swallowing. Certified Home Health Aides: Performs personal care services for patients at their place of residence. Does related work as required in meeting the medical needs of the Agency's clients. Provides services in the absence of an appropriated informal care-giver that inhibits the need for institutional care. Work performed includes bathing the patient and giving personal hygiene care; assisting patients with toileting; assisting patients in performing therapeutic activities prescribed by appropriate professional personnel; making the bed and performing other tasks to provide a safe clean environment in which the patient resides; reminding patients to take medications per care plan; observing for changes in the patient's condition and reporting these changes to the RN.

Personal Care Aides: Assists patient at his/her place of residence with personal care. May also assist with housekeeping duties, shopping, errands, and other activities necessary to quality of life. Work performed includes bathing the patient and giving personal hygiene care; helping the patient to the bathroom and to use a bedpan; planning and preparing meals for patient and may do shopping; Cleaning, dusting, washing dishes, and performing a variety of light housekeeping tasks essential to patient health care; providing respite for the primary caregiver.

Companions/Housekeepers: Performs routine housekeeping and companion tasks for clients in their place of residence. Work duties performed include caring for family clothing, including light washing, ironing, mending and sorting clothes; cleaning, dusting, washing dishes and performing a variety of other housekeeping tasks to keep the home in a sanitary and livable condition; doing household tasks for persons at home because of illness, incapacity, or the absence of a caretaker relative; running errands, and attending activities with the client.
